FAMOUS DETROIT AREA CAR COLLECTION TO BE SOLD TO HIGHEST BIDDER
YPSILANTI, Michigan (March 25, 2008) – Classic car fever will sweep over
the Motor City next month as RM’s long awaited sale of the renowned Bud
Mick Collection begins. Offered as a special segment of the Classic Car
Auction of Michigan, this $4 million sale will take place at the Rock
Financial Show Place in Novi from April 26th and 27th.
In addition to the Bud Mick Collection, the auction will feature a wide
variety of classic Cadillacs from the Edwin Oberhaus collection, plus more
than 150 privately consigned cars. Regarded as Michigan’s premier auction
for classic cars, this year’s event will present over 300 magnificent
examples for auction, making for an ultimate classic car weekend for
motoring enthusiasts.
Well known among Midwestern car collectors, Bud Mick was a very successful
entrepreneur and passionate motoring enthusiast who assembled a remarkable
collection of cars, ranging from the earliest days of motoring to the best
late model collectibles. The Novi auction will present an opportunity for
local car enthusiasts to pay tribute to this renowned Michigan collector.
“Like so many other car collectors, Bud’s enthusiasm for collecting began
with the cars of his youth – some bought because he knew someone with one
just like it, and others because they evoked memories of earlier times and
places,” says Mike Fairbairn, Executive Vice President of the
Canadian-based RM Auctions.
“The difference with Bud’s cars is that the collection grew well beyond
nostalgia, and his passion and enthusiasm for all things automotive led
the collection in many different directions.
“The diversity of the collection means it has something to cater for every
automotive taste and we are thrilled to have been entrusted by the Mick
family with the task of selling the collection at auction,” he adds.
The collection is best known for its muscle cars and convertibles of the
fifties and sixties. Examples include an extremely rare factory original
Hemi powered 1967 Plymouth GTX convertible, a ’62 Chevrolet SS 409 four
speed coupe, and a ’65 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 four speed convertible.
Noteworthy convertibles include a stunning 1958 Pontiac Bonneville, a ’68
Ford Mustang 390 GT, a ’54 Cadillac Eldorado, and a ’55 Pontiac Star
Chief.
At the high end, the collection also includes a wide variety of prewar
classics, including a unique and flawlessly restored 1934 Bugatti Type 57
Galibier Sedan, originally designed for continental and long distance
touring; a stunning 1938 Packard Twelve Brunn Landaulet, believed to be
just one of 17 Packard Touring Cabriolets by Brunn; an award-winning, true
classic 1930 Pierce-Arrow Model A Convertible Coupe; and a pair of Auburn
Cabriolets – one from 1929 and one from 1935.
The Spring event will also present a series of cars from the renowned,
Ohio-based Edwin Oberhaus Collection. A highly respected entrepreneur,
Edwin Oberhaus has been fascinated with collector cars for most of his
life, with a particular passion for Cadillacs. Amongst a variety of
business ventures, Edwin along with his wife Alyce, ran Oberhaus
Enterprises’ Cars and Collectibles, an antique and classic car museum in
Archbold, Ohio. Following the closure of the museum earlier this year, RM
is proud to present a number of highlights from the museum collection at
the Novi auction.
With a strong focus on 1950s and 1960s Cadillacs, highlights of the
Oberhaus offering include: an excellent, unrestored 1959 Cadillac Series
62 four-door hardtop; a rare 1972 Cadillac Eldorado Wagon, one of only
eight built; an attractive and well-preserved 1939 LaSalle Touring Sedan,
and a 1970 Cadillac Limousine, formerly owned by singer Johnny Paycheck,
well known for the famous country song ‘Take This Job and Shove It.’ Fully
loaded with luxury items, custom features of the former Paycheck car
include a built-in refrigerator, TV, jump seats, gold velour interior with
matching curtains and shag carpet.
The Classic Car Auction of Michigan will be held April 26th to 27th at the
Rock Financial Show Place, 46100 Grand River Avenue, Novi, Michigan. A
preview of the auction line-up will be held April 25th from 3pm to 8pm.
Doors open on the weekend from 9am with the auction action getting
underway from 10.30am each day. Admission to the event is $10 for a day
pass or $15 for a weekend pass (2 days).
